About BlueShoop

BlueShoop is a Bluetooth™ based multi-computer clipboard extender.  BlueShoop allows you to Copy text, a URL, or a file into your computer’s clipboard and Paste (“Shoop”) them to other nearby machines.  This is done using the Bluetooth™ wireless networking technology.

Using BlueShoop

Opening the application

BlueShoop automatically launches when Windows starts up.  To open the application find the BlueShoop icon in the system tray and double click it or right click it for options.  From the right click menu, BlueShoop can either be opened or shut down.

The main screen

The main BlueShoop screen will be shown when the program is opened.  A collection of buttons is at the top of the window with a scrollable history control taking up the remaining portion of the screen.

The Shoop! button

This button is used to Paste the contents of the local machine’s clipboard to a remote machine.  In BlueShoop this is simply referred to as a “Shoop”.

First Copy some text, a URL, or a file into your clipboard using Edit ŕ Copy or CTRL+C.  Next, click the Shoop! button or use CTRL+. (CTRL+) to open the device selection window.  From here select which computer(s) you would like to Shoop to.  Left click on a blue arrow to send the Shoop to a single computer.  Right click on several arrows to show the Shoop Blast option.  A Shoop Blast allows you to send the contents of your clipboard to multiple computers at the same time.

To override what is in the clipboard and send a plain text Shoop enter your message in place of <Enter text to Shoop> and then Shoop or Shoop Blast it out to the other computer(s).

Note: Sending File Shoops and Shoop Blasts (of any kind) can be only done using a licensed copy of BlueShoop.  BlueShoop can be licensed through the Help (?) screen.

The Detect Devices button

This button manually starts the device detection process.  It will attempt to find all other compatible BlueShoop devices within range.  The range of which devices can be detected is determined by the class of Bluetooth™ on your computer.

·         Class 1 – 100 meters

·         Class 2 (most common) – 10 meters

·         Class 3 – 1 meter

When BlueShoop starts up it will automatically run three quick detection processes.  After that it will run another detection process every 15 minutes (this value is configurable, see below).

The Options button

This button opens the Options window.

Sounds Effects – Indicates whether or not sound effects should be played when a Shoop is sent/received.

Time Between Discoveries – The number of minutes to wait between automatic device detection processes.

Log – Allows you to view or clear the BlueShoop log file.

Device Security – Allows you to manage which devices are allowed/blocked.

Save – Closes the Options window and saves any changes that were made.

Cancel – Closes the Options window without saving changes.

The Devices button

This button opens the Devices window which shows all currently detected devices.  The number in parenthesis that is shown on the main screen is the number of currently detected devices.

The Help (?) button

This button opens the Help window.

Information – Displays the version of BlueShoop that is running along with the computer’s local name and Bluetooth™ address.

Help and Support – Allows you to access either local or online help for BlueShoop.  You can also email HawkeSoft, LLC support from this window.

License BlueShoop – Allows you to license your copy of BlueShoop.  To purchase BlueShoop licenses visit http://www.blueshoop.com or click the link.  After obtaining a valid license key from HawkeSoft, LLC enter it in the License Key text box and press the License button.  If any licensing errors occur hover the mouse pointer over the red text to view the error details.

Restart – Restarts the BlueShoop application.  This is sometimes necessary if the local Bluetooth™ device has stopped responding after system hibernation.

Shoop History

The scrollable Shoop history control allows you to see any previous device detections, Shoops (incoming and outgoing), and warnings that have occurred during the current session.  History items that have not yet been viewed will be outlined in the appropriate color.

·         Information – Blue button

·         Warning – Red button

·         Text Shoop – Blue arrow

·         URL Shoop – Green arrow

·         File Shoop – Purple arrow

Microsoft Windows Bluetooth™ stack

Bluetooth™ stacks

The Bluetooth™ device must be running the Microsoft Windows stack.  This stack is included with all versions of Windows since Windows XP SP2.  For BlueShoop to properly function all other Bluetooth™ stacks must be removed.  To install the Microsoft Windows stack just plug-in your USB Bluetooth™ device and let Windows automatically install its drivers.  Do not install any other 3rd party stacks that come with your USB Bluetooth™ device.

The Toshiba Bluetooth™ stack is one of the most common 3rd party stacks included with internal Bluetooth™ devices.  For details on how to remove the Toshiba stack see the following article: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?soid=842293.
